Ter Yde is an 80-hectare nature reserve, the heartland of one of the largest dune complexes on our coast that extends roughly over 2.5 km in width and around 2 km in depth between the beach and the polder and covers about 260 hectares. It comprises the Zeebermduinen, Karthuizerduinen, Hannecartbos, Spelleplekke, Plaatsduinen, Witte Burg and Oostvoorduinen and, of course, Ter Yde itself.

You can truly walk from the beach to the Hannecartbos (woods). Along the way, you will encounter many beautiful dune biotopes: drifting dunes with marram grass, moss dunes with dune pansies, dune thickets with sea buckthorn... to the Hannecartbos with nesting storks.

Yde stands for refuge, anchorage. Hence its name, amongst others, 'New Yde' and 'Coxyde' alias Koksijde.
