The Witte Burg is a small area with a mere 15 hectares, an offshoot of the Doornpanne.

The twenty-one-metre-high Witte Burg is a shifting dune which can be admired in all its splendour. A steep barren sandy slope towers above the area. Elsewhere, the subtle, almost fluorescent green of the star moss catches the eye. When dry, this moss curls up and looks withered and brown, but nothing could be further from the truth! By the next downpour, it will be back to its bright green colour!

Originally, this nature reserve had a more evocative name. Witte Burg was then called Witte Buik (white belly), a reference to the size of the white sand massif. Since Witte Buik did not sound sufficiently civilised, the name was changed to Witte Burg.
